The Changing Economy of Creativity - Patreon
I think something that each of us wants is the freedom to become our true selves—who we’re meant to be. As a creative person, it’s nearly impossible to fit into society’s mold. Over the years I've participated, largely against my will, in normal life. I’ve gone through all of the motions. I’ve been told who to be, what to want, and how to act, but I’ve discovered that I’ll always crave the extraordinary. That’s probably why I love reading and writing fiction so much—it gives me a chance to escape, to be my true self.
There’s a reason we’re called “starving artists.” It’s because we sacrifice many of the necessities of life in pursuit of our passions. I personally know many people who have given up their comforts in pursuit of their dreams, and I admire them dearly. While I’m not literally starving, I have simplified my life and reduced my expenses significantly to make more room for creativity. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to cut back enough to pursue writing full time—not even close to enough.
My goal is to complete two novels and a collection of short stories by the time I finish my Creative Writing degree next Spring—and you can help me!
There has always been a gap between artists, writers, musicians, and the people who consume their creations. Patreon is a website meant to close that gap. The economy of creativity is changing, and I hope you can understand how necessary this is. By pledging a minimum of $2.50/month (less than a cup of coffee), you’ll put food on my table and I’ll put new and exciting stories in your inbox. I hope to use this platform to connect and collaborate with my readers and to spend more time doing what I love—writing. If you join this awesome community of people supporting each other’s passions, then I promise we’ll all become who we’re meant to be.
