Word of the Week: Beachhead

First, a weekly update...

I just received a great critique of my first novel. There are some things I need to work on before I can get this book edited, so I'll be starting another round of revisions soon.

Beachhead (Noun)

Definition - A defended position on a beach taken from the enemy by landing forces, from which an attack can be launched.

Synonym - Foothold.

Antonym - I couldn't find one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Example - "We’ll go down and make a beachhead, establish a base, start pushing out."

Book Suggestion - Over Spring Break I read Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, winner of the 2016 Arthur C. Clarke award for best novel. If you're interested in terraforming, the colonization of other planets, evolution, or artificial intelligence, you'll devour this book. It's probably one of the top three books I've ever read. Here's a nice quote from it: "Life is not perfect, individuals will always be flawed, but empathy – the sheer inability to see those around them as anything other than people too – conquers all, in the end."
